I want this and that, and that, and that, and that!!
What is it about a few pounds or dollars in our bank account that makes us feel like
Montgomery Brewster
? The first thing that we do is plan on how we will spend our new found fortune seemingly with a magical deadline by which time the money must be gone. (Normally within about 3 days of getting paid!). I have spent millions this year in my mind and sadly the physical spending is somewhat behind that!
What makes us feel like the money has to be spent? People in Eastern Europe and Asia (Excluding Japan) don’t seem to have this problem? What is it about the “Western” way of life that makes us so prone to the desire to spend as much as we can as fast as we can?
My theory is expectation. We live in a culture of credit and instant gratification, somehow if we don’t have the 3 bed house, the newish car and the big screen TV we aren’t achieving what we should be, it doesn’t matter if you are a bar tender or a CEO our expectations are always eating away at us. I have gone so far this year as to create my “

, Scary stuff I can tell you! Do I actually need any of this stuff or for that matter truly want any of it? Except for the

probably not!
Set yourself a challenge this month. After all your bills figure out what your “Disposable” income is and try to get to the end of the month without spending any of it. How long can you last?
